Workshop: Post-Quantum Trails Board Game

· 14:00 – 15:00 Amsterdam time · Room F (6&7)

This interactive, hands-on workshop is centred around Post-Quantum Trails, an educational board game designed to demystify the complexities of migrating to post-quantum cryptography (PQC), a joint project brought to life by Cybernetica and the OpenSSL Foundation.

As quantum computing advances, the transition to quantum-safe cryptographic standards is no longer optional; it has become urgent. Yet for many developers and stakeholders, the migration process feels overwhelming and too abstract. The game brings this journey to life, guiding players through the real-world challenges of developing, standardizing, and deploying PQC solutions, and highlighting both the technical problems and the strategic trade-offs involved.

Participants will learn about the PQC landscape, understand the risks of delayed migration, and engage in a collaborative simulation that reflects actual industry challenges. Earlier versions of this workshop have been run at the OpenSSL Conference and NordSec 2025, and the facilitators will introduce the game, explain the rules, and be on hand throughout to help players, answer questions, and discuss the awareness aspect of PQC migration.

Speakers

  • Junior Researcher · Cybernetica AS

Jelizaveta Vakarjuk is a junior researcher in Cybernetica and industrial PhD student at Tallinn University of Technology. Her research focuses on post-quantum cryptography, privacy-preserving cryptography, and security of voting systems. Mainly she does research on post-quantum digital signatures, but also focuses on the aspects of migration to post-quantum cryptography, being one of the authors of Estonian PQC migration roadmap.

  • Junior Researcher · Cybernetica AS

Nikita Snetkov is a Junior Researcher at Cybernetica and an industrial PhD student at Tallinn University of Technology. His research focuses on post-quantum cryptography and server-supported signature schemes.
