Comparing Cryptographic Inventory Requirements Across Industries

· 11:45 – 12:30 Amsterdam time · Red hall

This panel explores the differences in the requirements on cryptographic inventory, and how they impact remediation efforts and migration priorities across industry verticals. Chaired by an expert in cryptographic posture management, the panel brings together representatives from finance, telecoms, energy, healthcare and transportation to determine what each sector actually needs.

The panel explores whether a universal inventory model is realistic across such fundamentally different environments, or whether sector-specific approaches to PQC discovery, cryptography information exchange and prioritisation will ultimately emerge. It covers the challenges of on-boarding external inventory tools, mapping cryptographic dependencies, and how to evaluate different tools against the individual needs of each industry.

The topic becomes particularly interesting cross-sector because financial institutions may have mature PKI governance and strong visibility into certificates and identity infrastructure yet still struggle to map cryptographic dependencies within internally developed applications and third-party SaaS ecosystems; OT-heavy sectors such as energy, manufacturing, and transportation may know their physical assets in extraordinary detail while lacking visibility into embedded cryptography within industrial control systems, field devices, firmware, and operational protocols; and telecoms providers face challenges associated with highly distributed network infrastructure, vendor equipment, and complex trust relationships across operational environments.

Speakers

  • Co-founder & Chief Strategy Officer · QIZ Security

Itan Barmes is a quantum physicist turned cybersecurity strategist. After earning his PhD in quantum physics, he moved into cryptography and cyber risk, first as a senior manager at Deloitte and now as co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Qiz Security. For over a decade he has advised global enterprises on rebuilding their cryptographic foundations to withstand emerging quantum threats. At Qiz Security he drives the company's mission to make post-quantum resilience practical, bridging deep science with real-world implementation. Known for challenging assumptions, he blends scientific rigor, cybersecurity experience, and entrepreneurial drive to help organizations build digital trust for the quantum future.

  • SVP Cryptography, Quantum-Readiness · Citi

Sarah McCarthy, a leading expert in quantum-safe cryptography, champions Citi's Quantum Readiness Program. She holds a PhD in PQC from Queen’s University Belfast, is an affiliate of the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo, sits on the steering committee of Europol’s Quantum Safe Financial Forum and is a primary contributor to the US Treasury-led Quantum Readiness Task Force. Her work, spanning from developing quantum-safe network solutions to coordinating stakeholders towards a secure migration, focuses on securing financial systems against quantum threats.

  • quantum safe strategy advisor · IBM

Lory Thorpe is an executive technology leader and board advisor with more than 20 years of experience shaping the strategy, commercialisation and adoption of emerging technologies across global industries. Her expertise spans advanced connectivity and communication, quantum readiness, cybersecurity, and deep tech, with a proven track record of leading innovation from research and incubation through to market adoption and industry-scale deployment, bridging the gap between breakthrough innovation and commercial outcomes. As a Senior Strategy Advisor within IBM, Lory leads the Quantum Safe agenda for industries, helping organisations prepare for the risks and opportunities of the quantum era. She is passionate about responsible innovation and a champion for diversity in STEM.

  • Global Customer Cybersecurity Lead, Member Quantum Center of Excellence · Hitachi Energy

Rouven Floeter is the Global Customer Cybersecurity Lead at Hitachi Energy and a Founding Member of the Hitachi Quantum Center of Excellence. With more than 26 years of cybersecurity leadership across IT and OT, he advises customers and industry leaders on cyber resilience, critical infrastructure protection, and quantum-safe transformation. Within the Quantum Center of Excellence, he supports initiatives related to post-quantum cryptography and the adoption of quantum-safe technologies. Previously, he led the development of the industry's first quantum-safe encryption solution for mission-critical communications.

  • IAM specialist - voorzitter Pqc netbeheer Nederland · Stedin

Sjors Kasbergen is an IAM specialist at Stedin and chair of the Dutch grid operators' PQC expert group. He believes that digital trust has become so invisible that most people only notice it when it fails. His passion is helping organisations see the cryptography they rely on every day and understand why the transition to a quantum-safe future matters. By translating complex technical concepts into practical stories and decisions, he helps create the awareness needed to drive meaningful change.
