Business implications of the PQC transition

· 11:45 – 12:30 Amsterdam time · Red hall

This panel session will discuss the next phase of migration to Post Quantum Cryptography (PQC). As organizations move from discovery and strategy into their respective (but interconnected!) transition journeys, it is important that business continuity and interoperability be maintained throughout. This session will discuss strategic business factors that are important to consider for this transition and how industries can stay aligned.

Speakers

  • SVP Cryptography, Quantum-Readiness · Citi

Sarah McCarthy, a leading expert in quantum-safe cryptography, champions Citi's Quantum Readiness Program. She holds a PhD in PQC from Queen’s University Belfast, is an affiliate of the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo, sits on the steering committee of Europol’s Quantum Safe Financial Forum and is a primary contributor to the US Treasury-led Quantum Readiness Task Force. Her work, spanning from developing quantum-safe network solutions to coordinating stakeholders towards a secure migration, focuses on securing financial systems against quantum threats.

  • CEO · evolutionQ Inc.

Michele Mosca is co-founder and CEO of evolutionQ and a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. He is widely recognized as a pioneer in quantum computing and a leading voice on the cybersecurity implications of quantum technologies.

Michele has played a central role in advancing global awareness of quantum-era risks and in developing practical strategies for cryptographic resilience. His work focuses on helping organizations assess and mitigate quantum-related threats, adopt post-quantum cryptography, and build long-term, crypto-agile security architectures.

He is a co-founder of the Institute for Quantum Computing and a founding member of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. He has also helped lead key international initiatives in quantum-safe security, including the Open Quantum Safe project and the ETSI-IQC Quantum-Safe Cryptography Conference.

Michele has worked extensively with governments, industry, and standards communities to support the transition to quantum-safe infrastructure. His contributions have been recognized with numerous honours, including appointment as a Knight (Cavaliere) in the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.

He holds a doctorate in quantum computer algorithms from the University of Oxford.
